MTN South Africa on Tuesday launched MTN Icon 5G, a 5G-enabled smartphone it plans to sell for 2,499 rand ($138) as part of its commitment to make mobile internet more accessible and switch customers from older 2G and 3G technologies.

MTN has launched an affordable 5G-enable smartphone aimed at making the technology more accessible to South Africans.

MTN revealed its own 5G smartphone on Tuesday. Dubbed the MTN Icon 5G it stands to give more people access to 5G connectivity at the low price of R2 499. Fitted it a 5.5GHz processor and a 5 000mAh battery, the Icon’s real star is its 5G support. If all you need is high-speed internet access, this may be worth a look.
