The accident occurred in the early morning hours of Wednesday by exit 21 of the state Thruway in the town of Athens.

"Anyone who was in the area at the time, and has not yet spoken to officers, is asked to check their dash cam footage to see if they have captured anything that would help them," police said. The A131 was closed in both directions for a time between Halstead and the A120 while emergency services dealt with the incident.
