Georgia’s Zoo Atlanta announced Wednesday that it is in talks with China on a future giant panda program and is preparing to expand its panda conservation center. The center was once home to giant pandas for more than two decades but has sat empty since 2024 when the city’s four beloved pandas returned to China.

Two four-year-old pandas made their debut Jan. 24 at the Smithsonian National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute, marking the third pair since 1972. Crowds of visitors flocked to the zoo to celebrate the new arrivals.
