President Donald Trump has called on the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Elon Musk, to be "more aggressive." As head of DOGE, Musk has swiftly implemented a series of spending cuts across various federal departments, leading to mass lays offs.

On ABC’s “This Week,” GOP Congressman Mike Lawler, of New York, questioned the legal basis the Trump administration would have for dismissing tens of thousands of workers for refusing to heed Musk’s latest demand. The email did not include the threat of workers losing their jobs.

Trump-appointed officials at some government agencies — including the F.B.I., the State Department and the office coordinating America’s intelligence agencies — told their employees not to respond after Elon Musk ordered workers across the federal government to summarize in an email their accomplishments for the week or be removed from their positions.
