Any file that ends in .iso is an exact copy of a disk. It's a virtual copy of a CD or DVD, with the same file structure and the same data. ISO copies are referred to as "images" of the original.

This image appears as a virtual DVD drive. Mounting ISO images is a great way to view and run the content of the disk image without having to burn it onto a CD/DVD if you have such software.
