Write-in candidate for Utah governor Phil Lyman announced on Tuesday he had filed an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court seeking to toss out the state’s gubernatorial primary election and make himself the Republican Party nominee.

The Georgia Supreme Court rejected a last-minute push by the Republican Party to reinstate a set of new election rules that included, among other things, a requirement that ballots be hand-counted in the upcoming US presidential contest.

The Georgia supreme court on Tuesday rejected a Republican-led emergency appeal to get seven rules, most notably one that requires poll workers to count ballots by hand, reinstated in the last two weeks before the November election.

The Georgia Supreme Court didn't outright reject the appeal. In the order Tuesday, the court said it is declining to fast forward proceedings. "When the appeal is docketed in this court, it will proceed in the ordinary course," the justices wrote.
