A Chinese ship is suspected of severing two critical internet cables in the Baltic Sea in an act of sabotage that may have been orchestrated by Russia.

The crew of the Chinese bulk carrier Yi Peng is suspected of cutting communication cables in the Baltic Sea. It has been under the protection of European warships in international waters for a week, The Wall Street Journal informs.

Germany’s defense minister said damage to two fiber-optic cables on the sea floor appeared deliberate, but a culprit was not known.
