Monday marks the beginning of the trial of the alleged ringleader of a scheme that federal prosecutors say exploited the COVID-19 pandemic to steal $250 million from a program meant to feed children.

A witness, who pleaded guilty for her role in the the Feeding Our Future fraud scheme, testified in court against alleged ring leaders. FOX 9's Rob Olson has more.

Seventy people have been indicted in connection to alleged fraud tied to Feeding Our Future, 30 of whom have already pleaded guilty. Five defendants were convicted at trial last year where authorities say people tied to the case tried to bribe a juror with $120,000. Some who have pleaded guilty have agreed to testify against Bock and Said.

Lul Bashir Ali testified Tuesday in the fraud trial of Aimee Bock, the Feeding Our Future executive director, and a co-defendant.

Salim Said called up Feeding Our Future, which eventually faxed him an application for the federal food program for Sharmake Jama to fill out. Salim Said faxed the completed form back to Feeding Our Future, and soon told Sharmake Jama that his application had been accepted.

Jurors on Thursday heard from Qamar Hassan, the latest in a parade of people who have already pleaded guilty to fraud connected Feeding Our Future, and are now testifying about how they stole millions of dollars in government aid.

The trial is centered on the $250 million Feeding our Future case. On Thursday, another defendant who pleaded guilty took the stand.
