An outbreak of listeria infections linked with frozen supplemental shakes has made at least 38 people ill in 21 states, with 37 hospitalizations and 11 deaths, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said Friday.

Certain supplement shakes used at long-term care facilities and hospitals in Michigan are under recall amid a deadly listeria outbreak.

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Supplemental shakes that might have been contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes have been recalled. Lyons Magnus recalled the 4-ounce cartons of Lyons ReadyCare and Sysco Imperial frozen shakes after the products’ manufacturer, Prairie Farms Dairy Inc., recalled them from its Fort Wayne, Indiana, facility.

In the second major foodborne illness outbreak of 2025, the FDA has announced the recall of certain supplement shakes used at long-term care facilities.

In the outbreak, 38 people were infected across 21 states, including Pennsylvania, the FDA said. Most of them lived in long-term care facilities or were hospitalized prior to getting sick.
