According to Puget, the failures traced back to the 3B2QGXA7 firmware and primarily affect 2TB versions of the 980 Pro (although lower capacities are not entirely immune).

2021年12月14日 · Used some small flat plastic pieces that came with the set of bits and got the pieces separated. Two of the three thermal pads stayed on the chips. I would suggest researching what workloads NVMe benefits though, it's not recommended to overspend on drive speed you don't use. 2022年3月29日 · The 980 Pro doesn't seem so 'Pro' using their benchmarks - 11% slower effective speed than the SN850. The SN850 was released months before the 980 Pro. The SN850 is between $20-50 cheaper (at least in the 2 TB size) depending on what retailers you're comparing prices with.

2021年9月3日 · The Samsung 980 Pro was released 1 year ago (it uses NVMe 1.3c) with a 1200 TBW for the 2TB model, the Firecuda 530 just came out (it uses NVME 1.4) with a 5400 TBW for the 4TB model and a 2550 TBW for the 2TB model. The price for the Segate Firecuda 530 is a little more expensive than the Samsung 980 PRO.

If you're in the US, both are the same price ($169) on Best Buy's website so unless you're finding a 980 Pro for a good bit less elsewhere, the 990 Pro is a no brainer. With the said, you can get the 990 Pro for $150 or less on sale certain times of the year.
