Quasar - Wikipedia
It is sometimes known as a quasi-stellar object, abbreviated QSO. The emission from an AGN is powered by accretion onto a supermassive black hole with a mass ranging from millions to tens of billions of solar masses, surrounded by a gaseous accretion disc.

2025年2月8日 · Quasar, an astronomical object of very high luminosity found in the centres of some galaxies and powered by gas spiraling at high velocity into an extremely large black hole. The brightest quasars can outshine all of the stars in the galaxies in which they reside, which makes them visible even at
Quasar – Definition, Formation, Facts in Astronomy
2024年10月29日 · Quasars are the active cores of distant galaxies, powered by supermassive black holes devouring surrounding matter. First discovered in the 1950s and early 1960s, quasars have reshaped our understanding of the early universe and the evolution of galaxies.
Hubble Quasars - Science@NASA
2024年10月9日 · A Hubble Space Telescope photograph of a pair of quasars that existed when the universe was just 3 billion years old. They are embedded inside a pair of colliding galaxies. The quasars are separated by less than the size of a single galaxy.
Quasars – National Radio Astronomy Observatory
Quasars are cores of galaxies where a supermassive black hole is messily feeding. Orbiting gas and dust whip around the black hole with such ferocity that they give off light in all wavelengths. The magnetic field of the powerful black hole traps particles from this spinning disk and expels them along its poles.
Astronomers spot a ‘monster’ radio jet lurking in the distant ...
2025年2月13日 · “The quasars become extremely luminous by friction from gas and dust falling into the supermassive black hole. In the case of this quasar, part of the material has been launched in the form of ...
Astronomers find brightest object of its kind in the universe ...
2024年2月20日 · According to NASA, quasars are the extremely bright cores at the center of galaxies feeding off the energy consumed by supermassive black holes. The study authors say the black hole in the quasar is growing in mass by one sun a day, making it the fastest-growing black hole discovered yet.
Quasar - ESA/Hubble
Quasars are amongst the most luminous objects in the known Universe, typically emitting thousands of times more light than the entire Milky Way. They are distinguished from other AGNs by their enormous luminosity, and their enormous distances from Earth.
