In my opinion, Snake in MGS4 looks like that because he isn't taking on his MGS2 versions face (despite that being the last time we saw Solid Snake before he became a grandpa) He is taking the face he would have had at the time had he not been given a shorter lifespan. My ex had a snake similar to that on her arm. She had it flipped tho. The head started at the top of her wrist/hand and wrapped around her arm opposite of what you’ve got. As he goes through life, he ascends in renown, in worldly prowess and fighting skill, but at the same time, this ascent is also a metaphysical descent.
