Fuel Injector Cleaner: Does it really work? - Edmunds
These guys do all my maintenance, and know I trust them to be straight with me. They could make more money off me by letting me neglect the fuel system and charging me a pile of money to service it later on. Not exactly scientific evidence, but good enough for me. The car has 68k miles, performance and fuel economy are the same as always.

Didn't sue any Gasoline Additive companies. Most made both oil and Gas Additives. Fuel injection repairs are expensive. Additives are cheap. I personally use them. I also do a 3 stage fuel injector cleaner every 15,000 miles. I had a car that needed premium until I got the big treatment. Now it uses regular. I like them.

Over the counter fuel injector cleaners oil additives and the like are snake oil IMO so I don't use them. My last car (plain ole 4 banger) went 230,000 miles no problem. Current car ('00 Civic) owners manual says additives will do nothing (if your lucky) except increase operating costs. I do use name brand fuels though.

A.Fisch, the Avalon has a "pressurized" fuel system. Opening the gas cap will NOT relieve the pressure. Disconnecting the fuel line will dump a lot of fuel, much like opening the nozzle on a hose that has already been shut off, there is fuel under pressure in the lines. Disconnecting the PUMP does not relieve the pressure.

The pump is designed to supply fuel at a pressure above the pressure needed by the injectors. There is a problem with the active fuel management systems on ALL 2007-2008 Sierras that have the 5.3L or 6.0. The 4.8L model does not have active fuel management. For the old timers out there, it is the same issue as the Cadillac V8-6-4 engine. Make no mistake, If your vehicle has active fuel management, you have a problem!
