This was the John Deere Factory in Welland, Ontario. The factory opened in 1911 after taking over The Dain Manufacturing Company, a producer of farming equipment. The company moved their headquarters to Welland in 1915 and in 1918 changed their name to John Deere Manufacturing Company.

The John Deere factory in Welland, in operation since 1910, provided many families with income and the community with taxpayer money for almost 100 years. It was an integral part of Welland until the early 2000s. In 2008 John Deere announced that it would be closing its Welland location by the end of 2009, causing 800 people to lose their jobs.
