The side with the head of the screw touching it was predrilled halfway through the plywood because I was simultaneously testing a plug cutter.

2020年12月15日 · The plywood hole will soak up a lot of glue and the dowel may swell some. Too much glue will cause more problems than too little. Not all plywood is equal. Use a good grade with as many layers as you can find. 11 ply baltic birch has very few hidden voids. I use 1/4 dowels in plywood.

2023年9月23日 · Finishing plywood is no different than finishing solid wood except you don't want to sand (or scratch) very hard and cut through the veneer. The inside plies are not the same as the surface, will look ugly, and you'll have the glue layer to boot. I've varnished oak on boats where it holds up pretty well (above the water line.)

2021年11月25日 · I've got a couple sheets of 3/4" ply from Home Depot - not crappy exterior grade - the "Sande" plywood they carry. Its got five thick layers plus the two exterior laminates. It isn't as high quality as the maple or birch plywood, but for the garage cabinets it works fine. I hate destroying a $70 sheet of plywood just for a couple strips for cleats.

Much more work to build it, but it wont suck the way a plywood miter would with just glue. - gargey

2012年3月20日 · Remember that you are going through 3/4" of plywood and probably another 1/2 - 3/4" of drywall before you hit a stud, so you could be getting as little as 1" of the screw into the stud. I would use 3.5" lag screws, just make sure to countersync them so the heads do not sit proud of the surface of the cleat.

Positives - easy to sweep - easy to knock glue, etc off - good water protection - bit of reflectivity brightens the room Negative - can be a bit slippery with dust on it. Had to put no-slip tape around a few of the machines. Overall happy with it.
