2012年5月7日 · I used filler wads for a while when I first started messing with cast bullet rifle loads. I quit when I started reading about the occasional ringed chamber. Figured it wasn't worth taking the chance, given the very slight - and questionable - improvement in group size. I have never personally seen a ringed chamber.

So is there something to be learned regarding the material used for wads or the case design or the combination of the two? If ringing was due to pushing the wad down onto the powder then I expect the rest of us should have ringed our barrels after over 30,000 rounds respectively.

2018年12月5日 · I have seen barrels ringed trying to shoot them out in this manner. The method I use is to flood the barrel with Ed's Red or Kroil, then stand the gun in the corner for a while to let the solvent weep around the bullet. Then thread a Brownell's squibb rod onto the end of your Dewey cleaning rod and just tap it out. Works with jacketed too.

2012年4月12日 · 45-70 People have been shooting 12-14 grains of Unique with bullets from 300 (457191) to 500 (457125) grains made out of about anything that will melt, for ~75 years. Some use TP or Dacron or kapok or cotton or ?? very small/light wads atop the powder. (I use Dacron.) Others warn of “ringed” chambers with wads. Loudly.

2018年5月16日 · I did LOTS of testing with fillers when I was at Ruger, because a great many .45-70 rifles were received in customer service with ringed chambers, many rifles with multiple rings which corresponded to the base location of different weight bullets.

2020年6月4日 · While some people have used it successfully in reduced loads with a bulky Dacron filler to take up free airspace in the case and to keep the powder positioned against the primer, I do not recommend the practice, having ringed a barrel doing so with cast loads in a .30-30 Remington 788 years ago.

2012年6月2日 · Some people will not use wads in bottle neck cases for fear of the wad being displaced into the case just before ignition and producing a “ringed chamber/barrel". I've used 0.060” tick ploy wads in revolver cases for years. I also use them in my BPCR .40-70 SS.
