Time Machine will then create a disk image on that drive that will act just like a HFS+ drive for Time Machines purposes (hard linking, etc.). One advantage of using a disk image over using the entire drive is that you can limit the size it will grow to of the disk image using Disk Utility.

In my case, the Time Machine volume is connected via WiFi, so am at near absolute certainty that the physical connections haven't been disturbed. Using Disk Utility either via the GUI may give messages about the drive being beyond repair, recommending erasing and reformatting, but the general fix is to reboot the Mac.

2024年12月21日 · Recently I wanted to recover my files and old pictures so I revisited. I found I could connect to Time Machine and see all of the old back ups going back to like 2010. I tried highlighting the drive name in the Time Machine backup and recovering but it encountered a message saying it could not replace the system folder.

2011年3月8日 · I just started using Time Machine for backup of my late 2009 MBP. So far it's backing up only OS X partition and ignoring Bootcamp partition. I also see the point Time Machine completely ignores NTFS and FAT32 partitions. Looking for solution/ hack to include Bootcamp partition also included in my Time Machine backups.
