Whenever possible, the operating system will step down one UDMA mode at a time (from UDMA mode 4 to UDMA mode 3, and so on). To correct the problem, you have to uninstall the Primary IDE channel and reboot.

I looked at the BIOS but cannot see where to change it. Can anyone help? Now, is it safe to uninstall the primary channel and have in re-recognized? I need to get that drive to UDMA.

2008年8月18日 · In the system Setup (F2) the Drive Configuration is definitely set to UDMA. I checked the IDE cable--it has an 80-wire Ultra-DMA IDE/ATA cable. The drive is the Hitachi Deskstar IC35L090AVV207-0. I ran the IDE Drive Diagnostics, the one on the Boot Device Menu, and also the Disk drive portion of the DELL Hardware Diagnostics Utility.
