Warm water, no more than 110*, add 1/4 lb of salt per gallon. A two hour soak is all that’s needed. Drain, rinse and back in the pickle. Bears can take 2-3 degreasing but that’s the stubborn ones. .

I know a lot of folks use Dawn soap and white gas, but I have plenty of lipasolve sitting around and I am wondering if that + some citric acid is safe to use on this pelt. Any other sugtestions regarding degreasing and (eventually) mounting peacocks would be appreciated.

I currently have 72 heads degreasing with a moose, antelope, wolf, bear and 6 deer just pulled and either drying or whitening. Hard to keep up with just how many I do until about June/July and just count the sheets of the Log Book.

2018年2月6日 · Hey, for the last few years i have had nothing but trouble degreasing my skulls. I simmer at very low temps (below 200 degrees) and use soap when i simmer. After i have tried dawn in water for months with no success, I then tried dawn in water at temps as high as 160 for weeks with no success at all.
