Disciplinary sanctions serve to deter Covered Persons and others from engaging in wrongdoing and to educate them about the risks, dangers, and consequences of engaging in different types of illegal and unethical conduct.
These standards provide a framework to guide the courts and disciplinary agencies, including disciplinary counsel, in imposing sanctions, thereby providing the flexibility to select the appropriate sanction in each particular case of lawyer misconduct.
