How come light water behaves sometimes more as a moderator …
2023年12月17日 · In pressurized water reactors (PWR) and boiling water reactors (BWR), light water (ordinary water, H₂O) serves as both a coolant and a neutron moderator. The primary goal of moderation is to reduce the kinetic energy of fast neutrons produced during fission, making them more likely to induce further fission reactions.
How can I clarify an Americano, light water? : r/starbucks - Reddit
What I order: Americano, ristretto, light water, sometimes light heavy cream. If iced, light ice. If iced, light ice. The problem : I'm realizing a lot of baristas either don't know what "light water" means (if I'm in store they usually ask, yet still fill almost to the top) or they're afraid to give a half empty cup (judging by the occasional ...
ELI5: The difference between light and heavy water reactors.
2013年6月4日 · The disadvantage of light water is that it absorbs a few percent of the neutrons emitted by the fissioning uranium or plutonium; heavy water doesn't. A heavy water reactor can work with natural uranium; the uranium doesn't have to be enriched; however, heavy water needs to be obtained, and for a single power station it can cost $1 billion.

What are the benefits of using heavy water (compared to light
Thanks for your answer. That clarifies a lot of things. If you were to use light water as a moderator and the H1 captured additional neutrons during the fission, would this then turn the coolant into heavy water? I.e. would a light water moderator improve in its function as more fission reactions occur? I hope that makes sense!
