I think it gives people the right idea of what Rance, as a series, would become (as VI to X is pretty consistent in tone and plot, but 01 is a wacky fun adventure before Rance becomes someone). If anything, I treat Rance 01 as more of the Fate Zero of what the series would become.

Yeah. Apparently some dude made a mod for Sengoku Rance like a month ago that adds all the other nations of the continent using Rance X assets as a continuation of the original story. Apparently he added 100 new characters, 500 new events, and almost a million characters to the original script. Mind boggling.

"Rance is ruining the series" is an unpopular opinion because it's just absurd to say if you understand why the series is popular. Rance is huge BECAUSE it has Rance, not in spite of it. There are hundreds of generic boring RPGs of various flavors if you want one without Rance, and they didn't blow up because they don't have Rance in them.
