In this series, they are able to breath oxygen the same way Earth creatures do. The Triceratons invaded Earth, claiming it as part of their empire and planned to send it through their Star Gate to their homeworlds to strip it clean. The Triceraton Empire is the militant governing empire of the Triceratons, anthropomorphic triceratops like aliens of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise. Even after the Triceraton home-world is destroyed, the empire persists from the relatively few Triceratons which escaped the planet's fate.

Unlike in the original comics and 2003 series, the government of the Triceratons is not in form of the Republic, but an Empire like in the 1987 series. Triceratons breathe nitrogen, but they get "sick" and become delusional by breathing oxygen.

The Fugitoid, a captive on one of the Triceratons' asteroid ships, is taken to the Triceraton Homeworld - an unbelievable conglomerate of other asteroid ships connected into a single, gigantic planetoid. As the Triceratons try to convince a doubtful Honeycutt to join them, the TMNT are found onboard the ship which brought them here.

Triceratons are the earliest creation of Mirage Studios, pre-dating even Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in which they have frequently appeared. In nearly all incarnations, they are an alien race.
