My compass dome lasted 39 years before I changed it, but probably had crazing after about 30 years. Not bad especially seeing new domes (and other parts) are still available for these old compasses.

However, I enden up taking the plastic dome off and spilling out all of the fluid in there (over the sink, luckily!). Now, as you can see from the images, I have disassembled all that I can.
