2018年10月17日 · There is an Emco Compact 8 lathe for sale in my area. Austrian made. Seller wants $1200. Has lots of tooling and accessories. Looks like it's in pretty decent shape. I have an Atlas Craftsman 101.07403 12 x 18. Not sure if the Emco is better, do I thought I would ask your thoughts and comments.

2018年4月7日 · The Emco BSW arrangement is smoother in use (yes, I tried this) and I would go with an Acme as a last resort. I cannot recall what the nut looks like but the typical larger Emco lathes have two screws on the cross slide; one to attach the nut and one for a set screw that adjusts backlash on the nut.

2013年5月23日 · Like all Austrian-made Emco lathes the Compact 8 was apparently built to high standards. While it appears to have some limitations it is capable of good work. I recall reading some threads long ago about the precision some guys were able to turn to so you have a good lathe in your hands.

2020年12月16日 · Many of the Chinese 9x20 lathes are a close copy of the Emco 8. Probably no direct fit of parts, but some of the popular modifications would probably work on the Compact 8 as well. I know there are plans out there for adding an electronic lead screw to 9x20s. That would be one way of dealing with the missing change gears.

2012年10月13日 · A long time ago, I had an EMCO Compact 8 clone lathe from Taiwan. That machine was identical in every way. Trust me; i compared the two side-by-side. Identical. It was made by the Fu-San Machine Works Co of Taiwan. I just Googled that name... the lathes.co.uk site says that they were the OEM for, among others, EMCO of Austria.
