This is the self-help section for Divorce or Legal Separation. Dissolution of marriage (divorce) ends a marriage or domestic partnership. It restores the parties to single status. A legal separation is for couples who do not want to divorce but want to live apart. It does not end a marriage.
The divorce is not final until the Judgment is signed by the judge and it has been at least six months and one day since the petition was filed and served – even in a default divorce.
