2022年7月23日 · ipfire is Linux based so doesn't have bsd's single threaded pppoe implementation. Ipfire doesn't support ipv6 (or didn't last time I checked). pfsense is bsd based, offers way more features and a much larger user base and hence potential help.

However, IPFire boots so fast that my ISP router hasn't established an internet connection by the time IPFire asks for an IP. IPFire continues with the boot after red0 times out. From there, it's supposed to establish a VPN connection which never gets to since red0 is still not active.

2016年10月13日 · Both can do essentially the same thing, but IPFire is simpler. pfSense has more features. I'm not a fan of either's UI. In my opinion, it goes: IPFire < pfSense < Sophos. IPFire does have Pakfire, which is IPFire's own package management tool, so IPFire is extensible. I don't think pfSense has anything like that—though I could be wrong.

2020年12月8日 · OK. Thx I am aware of Dnssec and how a lot of sites (incl govt) don't really support it. Dnssec requires several lookup types and I have dealt only with a,AAAA,.NS,text, SOA, cname and dkip specified after the hostname when using 'dig'.

2022年2月19日 · I'm aware of IPFire, a linux-based firewall, that came from a fork of IPCop. But i've not used it myself, except ipcop back in 2005. I've just now switched away from pfsense to using Debian 11 in a vm as a base for a linux firewall that i've just cobbled together. Using this as my home firewall. Which is working great so far.
