Here in the Pacific Northwest, few things are as recognizable as the Puget Sound. The creeks, streams, and rivers that flow into the sound help remind us of our closeness to nature and each other. In fact, across the region greenspaces found throughout our communities give us access to both work and play.

Puget Sound is a large inland estuary connected to the Pacific Ocean. It is about 95 miles long and 1 to 5 miles wide with it’s northern boundary at Admiralty Inlet and ending in the south at the city of Olympia. The shoreline is 1330 miles long, of that some 30% is armored with bulkheads.

The Puget Sound region is known for its salmon-filled estuaries and coastal forests, but on the southern portion of its range, evergreens give way to small patches of rolling grasslands that are home to some of Washington's rarest species.
